The reason the Thorne family will come after you is not because of my secrets.
It is not because of Sofia’s evidence.
It is because of something I hid from Richard.
Something that can destroy everything he built.
Khloe stopped.
Her hands shook.
The next sentence was underlined.
You were never just protected by the Thorne family.
You were protecting them from the truth.
Nobody spoke.
Marcus looked at her.
“What does that mean?”
Khloe didn’t answer.
Because she didn’t know.
Then another piece of paper slipped out of the envelope.
A photograph.
An old photograph.
A picture of three people.
Claire Thorne.
Richard Thorne.
And a little girl.
A little girl who looked exactly like Khloe.
On the back of the photo were four words.
THE REAL HEIR.
Everyone stared.
Marcus slowly looked at Khloe.
Because suddenly the biggest question was no longer who betrayed Sofia.
It was something much more dangerous.
Who was Khloe Thorne really?
And why had Richard spent twenty years trying to erase her existence?
CHAPTER 10-THE TRUTH BEHIND MARCUS’ SILENCE
The photograph felt heavier than it should have.
It was only a piece of paper.
Old.
Faded.
Slightly damaged from years of being hidden.
But in Khloe Thorne’s hands…
It felt like the entire history of her life had been reduced to one image.
Her mother.
Claire Thorne.
Richard Thorne.
And a little girl standing between them.
A little girl with the same eyes.
The same expression.
The same small scar above her eyebrow.
Her.
Khloe stared at the photograph.
“No…”
The word escaped before she could stop it.
Marcus stepped closer.
“Khloe.”
She looked at him.
“Tell me this isn’t real.”
He didn’t answer.
And once again…
His silence hurt more than the truth.
“Marcus.”
His face changed.
Because he knew.
This was the moment.
The moment where there was no more room for protection.
No more room for secrets.
No more room for carefully chosen words.
Only the truth.
“I need to explain.”
Khloe laughed softly.
A painful sound.
“That’s what you always say.”
Marcus lowered his eyes.
“I know.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“You don’t know.”
Her voice trembled.
“You don’t know what it feels like to discover your entire life was built on things people decided you didn’t deserve to know.”
Nobody spoke.
Because nobody could argue.
She was right.
Marcus had spent years believing silence was protection.
But silence had only created a deeper wound.
Alexander looked at the photograph.
“There is something else.”
Khloe looked at him.
“What?”
Alexander pointed at the image.
“The date.”
She looked down.
The photograph was taken twenty-five years ago.
Khloe frowned.
“That’s impossible.”
“What?”
“My mother died when I was twelve.”
“Yes.”
“And Richard was already running Thorne Global Holdings.”
“Yes.”
“But why would they take a picture together?”
Nobody answered.
Until Marcus spoke.
“Because they weren’t enemies at first.”
Khloe looked at him.
“What?”
“My father and your mother…”
He paused.
“They were partners.”
The revelation changed the atmosphere.
Khloe looked confused.
“Partners?”
Marcus nodded.
“Before Richard became the man everyone feared…”
“He had someone who challenged him.”
« Quelqu’un qui lui donnait un équilibre. »
« Ta mère. »
Khloé regarda à nouveau la photographie.
« Ma mère travaillait avec lui ? »
“Oui.”
« Elle a contribué à bâtir l’empire. »
Un silence.
« Alors pourquoi l’a-t-il effacée ? »
Khloé a attendu.
« Richard pensait que le pouvoir nécessitait un contrôle. »
« Il considérait les gens comme des outils. »
«Votre mère pensait le contraire.»
« Elle pensait que l’entreprise devait protéger ses employés. »
« Elle voulait faire de Thorne Global Holdings une entreprise éthique. »
Khloé a chuchoté :
« Et Richard a refusé. »
“Oui.”
Les pièces se sont lentement assemblées.
Sa mère.
Sofia.
Le contrat.
Les preuves.
Tout convergeait vers une seule bataille.
Un combat entre deux croyances.
Pouvoir.
Khloé a demandé.
Personne n’a répondu immédiatement.
Marcus la regarda.
“Qu’est-ce que tu dis?”
Elle regarda Khloé.
«Votre mère l’était.»
Silence.
Khloé fixa le vide.
« C’est impossible. »
“Non.”
Isabella secoua la tête.
« C’est la vérité. »
« Claire Thorne détenait les actions majoritaires initiales. »
Marcus se figea.
« Mon père a dit… »
« Ton père a menti. »
Isabella interrompit.
« Il a modifié les documents. »
« Il a manipulé le jeu. »
